I often find myself trying to put on a nice tone of voice, for example, when saying “excuse me”, and it comes across as rude instead. It’s like it’s not natural to me so it’s an active mental process and I fail at it often. So when I have to record something for others to listen to, I put on a soft feminine flowy voice that I kind of imitate from hearing my mom (who is actually probably a head type with nervous energy, but she is more charismatic - maybe a 6w7). It’s like I put stress and emphasis where there should be none, and I don’t use appropriate inflection in places where it should be. I have to listen to recordings of my own voice for work sometimes and I’m often surprised at how my voice sounds. I would describe my speaking style as kind of ping-ponging, tangential, or it can be very direct and decisive. ![]() Could also use some natural language processing libraries and get some semantic data that way. I studied speech and hearing science in college so I wonder if I can get my speech analysis software out and get some data… that would be an interesting project. Speech and voice is pretty interesting to me. I’ve been told I have “head type energy” when speaking. (This is mostly my experience as a 6, the reactive one, but I have seen it in 7s and 5s, especially under stress) ![]() Reminiscent, far away, anecdotal, either overly emotional or overly dry, softer, honest, point out the "elephant in the room" (4s especially), very positive or very negative.Īnxious, fluctuating, quick then suddenly silent, thinking extensively before speaking or throwing out ideas erratically, two extremes, oversharing then withdrawing, trying to hide or run from their anxiety, or succumbing to it. Speak at their own pace regardless of circumstances. Even type 8s are likely to speak in a steady, forceful tone. Not many fluctuations in speech, unshaken, down to Earth, grounded. I made this post because I think it could be useful to finding your own or someone else's center of intelligence. This is based on my own experience with different enneagram types, and I could be wrong, especially with the heart types, as I have not met that many.
